The 1963 Triumph – Part 7. A touch of Color

In our last update we talked about the process of recovering the work thus far on the bike from the damage inflicted on the build by the Dec. 2021 fire. We talked about the low points for us and our friends at Revival Motors and Coffee Co., and the glimmer of optimism on the horizon due to being part The 1 Moto Show coming up in the end of April and May.

This update is more about what it looks like coming out of that dark tunnel and seeing color again.  As the bike finished its fabrication and all the rust was removed it was time to send the tins out for paint.

For this build we worked with Triples Paintworks out of Phoenix, Arizona. Andrew at Triples has long been part of our THE TON family, and we have been fans of his work since before he went out on his own full time.

After one last run of fill and checking the tins, they were packaged on their way to Andrew. Typically, we work locally here, so it was a big shock to see how expensive shipping was. But as Triples received the metal, they were happy to know they were appropriately packaged and free of shipping damage.

We asked painter Andrew Riffle about the process of this paint job – and this is what he had to say. “When Tim asked me if I would paint his bike I was stoked, it was being built by RMCCO for the 1Moto Show and I was happy for the opportunity.

Then the guys suffered a bad fire destroying most of the shop’s belongings and leaving the bike in a state of disrepair and rust.

As the date of the show approached quickly and while I was finishing up two other bikes for the Bisbee show once the parts came in I was nervous for the deadline. I tried my best to get them done in time while also trying to deliver work worthy of the build, long nights, a bummed out girlfriend and a gas station diet.

A couple weeks later I got them done. They came out better then I pictured and was proud of the results. Got them shipped back and a few days later I’m getting sneak peaks of the bike finished! Can’t wait to see photos of it under those show room lights
I love this shit.”
